What Are the Most Common Causes of Intestinal Cramps?


When it comes to knowing the causes of intestinal cramps, there are some pertinent details that need to be looked at. Intestinal cramps can be categorized by type, onset, and the location. Following are some common causes of abdominal pain:

Indigestion: Indigestion can be considered as an important cause of abdominal pain among adults as well as small children. It mainly happens due to bad eating habits or eating of the bad food. Feeling of heartburn, a sensation of nausea or fullness, and belching could be the accompanying symptoms. Antacids can prove effective for alleviating indigestion issues. However, indigestion does not cause fever.

Constipation: This results from the difficulty in emptying bowels. The pain is usually sudden, and could either be crampy or constant. Though the pain tends to diffuse, it can be centralized to the left part of the stomach. It does not cause fever. The pain can be relieved through either passing stool and/or gas.

Menstrual Cramps: These types of cramps are often experienced by a number of women during the ovulation period. This mostly occurs midway through the menstrual periods. The pain can be quite unbearable, and it is mostly located to the lower left part of the abdomen. The patient does not experience any diarrhea, vomiting, or fever. It usually passes within a couple of days.

Irritable Colon: This is another crucial cause of Intestinal cramps, which results from the disturbance occurring in large intestine function. The condition can get worse through constant emotional stress. It can also accompany other symptoms like diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite, or even mucous stools. However, a fever is not a symptom in this case.

With that said, there are different ways of treating this medical condition. For instance, you can reduce the severity of Intestinal cramps by lowering the amount of fried foods, milk products, and others. Certain types of high-fiber foods need to be avoided like corn, nuts, and different Chinese vegetables, as they can promote the symptoms. So, a low fiber and fresh food is generally recommended.
